Visualase, Inc. (2008 recipient) has developed an MRI guided laser ablation system for selective destruction of soft tissue, including tumors. The Visualase system is FDA cleared and is currently being used clinically and commercially in brain, spine, and prostate cancer.
OrthoAccel Technologies, Inc. (2007 recipient) designs, develops, and markets a revolutionary device – the AcceleDent - that cuts treatment time for braces and also works in combination with all existing orthodontic bracket technologies; the company will launch AcceleDent in Europe in September 2009.
ThromboVision, Inc. (2006 recipient) aims to develop diagnostic solutions that improve clinical and economic outcomes for anti-platelet therapy and cardiovascular risk assessment and modification. ThromboVision's lead product measures platelet aggregation using a patented light scattering technology, which identifies and monitors the function of platelets and how they are affected by anti-platelet drugs such as aspirin (ASA) and clopidogrel (Plavix®). ThromboVision’s T-Guide® is in the final stages of development and preparing for its market launch.
